Title: Assistance and Augmentation: New Human Factors in Computing
Abstract:
Recently we see a rise in computation-augmented technology designed to assist humans in everyday tasks, from woodworking to cooking. This reflects an ancient path in technological development, starting with the agricultural revolution some 12,000 years ago, that tries to go beyond the biology of the human body (senses and actuators) to involve new non-organic capabilities, by use of hardware and software. This talk will survey the recent work in the field of assistive augmentation devices through new forms of interactive and computational elements. I will also reveal some of the research work in this domain that will be done in the Hi! Lab (Human Interaction Lab) in the following semesters.
