Stony Brook, NY- September, 2014
This fall we welcome back Charles “Chuck” Sapienza who received an Undergraduate Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievement last semester. Chuck’s major is Information Systems (IS) with a focus in network and systems administration, and a minor in history.
In April 2014, Chuck also proudly received the Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Community Service. At Stony Brook, Chuck volunteers as a commuter assistant, and has volunteered at many campus events including the drive-in movie event in South P Lot.
This semester, Chuck’s plate is full with a packed class schedule and full-time work with the systems staff in the Department of Computer Science (CS) at Stony Brook University. Chuck is excited to be taking Computer Networks 2, Mobile Application and Statistics, along with other non-major courses. While working in the CS department, Chuck troubleshoots network and systems, and printing problems for faculty and staff. Chuck is set to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Systems this December.
About the Department
The Department of Computer Science at SBU is ranked among the top 20 computer science departments in the nation. Interdisciplinary collaboration and research recognition elevates and attracts internationally renowned faculty who have made significant contributions in visual computing, networking, computer systems, cybersecurity, algorithms, verification, and intelligent computing. The ISE program, part of the Department of Computer Science, is technology-oriented, emphasizing the design and implementation aspects of large-scale information systems as well as the more traditional managerial and organizational issues. The ISE program balances development of system engineering skills with learning to deliver reliable systems on time and within budget. Students in the ISE program work with diverse applications areas, ranging from the traditional business, finance, and accounting, through telecommunications, networks, and database management, to computer-aided design and industrial production management systems.
