As we step boldly into the Fall ‘24 term, the Department of Computer Science is thrilled to welcome a dynamic new cohort of students. This year, we proudly introduce 47 incoming students to our Computer Science Honors Program, of which a remarkable 43 identify as female. Their arrival further strengthens our commitment to diversity and excellence.

Our department is abuzz with energy this fall, with over 1400 students enrolled or declaring an interest in our Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Information Systems and Engineering (ISE) programs. This includes 405 students registered in our CSE master’s program and 144 in our CSE PhD program. We are excited to welcome 390 new undergraduates, including 206 declared CSE majors, 16 declared ISE majors, 164 students on the General Computer Science (GSC) track, and 4 on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) track. This diverse cohort reflects the growing passion for our innovative programs.

“I am incredibly proud and excited about our incoming cohort and the remarkable work our current students are accomplishing. Their creativity and dedication to excellence continue to push the boundaries of what we can achieve,” said Samir Das, Chair and Professor of the Department of Computer Science. “As we begin this new academic year, I look forward to collaborating with both our new and returning students and seeing the innovative projects and successes that will emerge.”

To kick off the semester with spirit and connection, Women in Computer Science (WiCS) is hosting their first general body meeting, Stallerific Field Day, on September 6th. Join us for a day of games, laughter, and the chance to bond with both old friends and new faces. It’s a perfect chance to get to know your classmates and immerse yourself in the vibrant community that defines our department.

Here’s to a semester of groundbreaking ideas, collaborative success, and personal growth. Welcome back, and let’s make this academic year extraordinary!
