STONY BROOK, NY, May 30, 2012

Leman Akoglu, Jing Chen, Mike Ferdman, Phillipa Gill, and Vyas Sekar are joining the department starting in Fall 2012 as tenure-track assistant professors.

Dr. Leman Akoglu received her Ph.D. from the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University. Her interests are primarily data mining and social media analysis; with a focus on anomaly and event detection and pattern mining in large, time-varying graphs using scalable algorithms and tools.
 

Dr. Jing Chen received her PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT where she was a member of the Theory of Computation Group, which is part of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Dr. Chen's main research interests are Game Theory, Mechanism Design, Auctions, and Markets. She is also interested in Cryptography, Algorithms, Computational Complexity, and Secure Hardware.

Dr. Mike Ferdman received his PhD from the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). His research interests are in the area of computer architecture, with particular emphasis on the design of efficient server systems.

Dr. Phillipa Gill received her PhD from the Deptartment of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Her research interests are in the general area of computer networking and network measurement. Specifically, she aims to use insights gained through measurement to improve the security, reliability and performance of networks.

Dr. Vyas Sekar is currently a Research Scientist at Intel Labs, and a member of the Intel Science and Technology Center on Secure Computing at UC Berkeley. He received his PhD from the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests lie at the intersection of networking, security, and systems.
